Company History
CAD Anwendungen Muigg KG has been the legal successor to CAD Anwendungen Muigg since July 1, 2012. The managing director and general partner of CAD Anwendungen Muigg KG is Mr. Peter Muigg, who was also the owner of the predecessor company CAD Anwendungen Muigg, which was run as a sole proprietorship. The limited partner is Stefan Muigg, the son of Mr. Peter Muigg. Due to the fact that CAD Anwendungen Muigg KG was founded in mid-2012, a significant part of the description of the company’s history refers to the predecessor company “Computer Anwendungen Muigg” and its founder and owner.
Mr. Muigg graduated from HTL Elektrotechnik in Innsbruck. After spending a year abroad in Scotland and completing his military service in the Austrian Armed Forces, he began studying mathematics and computer science at the University of Innsbruck and worked as a freelancer at Bartenbach Lichttechnik alongside his studies. He was later hired and moved to the development department. There he was responsible for developing programs for daylight and artificial lighting design and calculating reflectors. In 1984, Mr. Muigg left Bartenbach to become self-employed.
March 1984: Mr. Muigg applied for a trade license for “services in automatic data processing and information technology” and founded the company “Software Engineering Muigg.” Due to his previous work in the field of lighting technology, this area was initially the focus of development activities. A significant proportion of the orders came from his former employer, “Lichttechnisches Ingenieurbüro Bartenbach” (now Bartenbach LichtLabor GmbH). With a background in mathematics and geometry, there was great interest in CAD, which led to contact with the then exclusive importer of AutoCAD CAD software for Austria, and an exclusive contract for the distribution of AutoCAD in Tyrol was signed in October 1984. In connection with this distribution agreement, the business license for commercial trade was expanded, the company was relocated to Innsbruck and renamed “Computer Anwendungen Muigg,” and the first employees were hired at this time.
May 1987: Presentation of the first version of ACADMAP at the “Ifabo” in Vienna
This application is still available, but has since been renamed “Muigg ArchitecTools” (MUIGG-AT). ACADMAP quickly became the market leader in the segment of AutoCAD-based architecture applications in Austria. At the same time, special AutoCAD applications were developed, such as the “Road Construction” application for civil engineering, an application for log cabin construction, and various applications in the field of lighting technology. 1989: Founding of Muigg & Partner Ges.m.b.H. This company was originally conceived as a sales company for CAM developments. Mr. Ing. Mag. Remesch and Mr. Ing. Bernhard Auer, who had previously run the company “Archdata” together, were brought on board as partners. In addition to the distribution of applications for architecture and construction, the field of “GIS” was established as a new area, with a particular focus on information systems for municipalities. In 1993, the company split up, Muigg & Partner was renamed “Synergis” and was successful in the GIS sector.
1995: Computer Anwendungen Muigg was one of the founding companies of the “Industry Alliance for Interoperability” (IAI)
The IAI has since been renamed “buildingSmart.” In 1997, Mr. Muigg was appointed “Head of the Integration Committee” of the German-speaking IAI. This is essentially the role of Technical Director (International Technical Coordinator - ITC). Mr. Muigg is supported in this activity by Autodesk to represent Autodesk’s interests in the IAI/buildingSMART, and a corresponding consulting agreement has been concluded in this regard.
1998: Development of the first version of the “Area Module” application
The Area Module was the first time that AutoCAD’s “Object-ARX” technology was used to define special ‘objects’ – namely the “room object” and the “room group object.” The employee responsible for this development was Rainer Breuß. The development of this software also marked the company’s entry into the field of area management and facility management (FM). The basic concept is still in use in the current versions for AutoCAD, although extensive enhancements have been made over time.
2003: The company name was changed to “CAD Anwendungen Muigg”
This change was made to reflect the fact that the company deals (almost) exclusively with CAD-related developments.
2004: Development of an FM solution for the Federal Real Estate Company (BIG)
The FM building manager is used to transfer the changed floor space and equipment information from the floor plans of the federal buildings to be managed (schools, offices, etc.) to a database in the event of structural changes, which forms the basis for the utilization of the space.
October 2010: Appointment of Mr. Muigg as an expert in the working group “ON-AG 011 09 Technical Drawing and Documentation in Construction”
Mr. Muigg continues to hold this position until today. He was later also nominated to the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) to represent Austria’s interests there.
July 1, 2012: Founding of the company CAD Anwendungen Muigg KG
The KG is the legal successor to the sole proprietorship CAD Anwendungen Muigg.
July 2013: Start of development of an application for Revit to improve the DWG export functionality for Revit
The contract for this was awarded by Autodesk. One of the key requirements was to support any layer standard and to cover specifications via blocks with attributes for each standard or company standard. This product was later renamed “Enhanced DWG Exporter for Revit” or “EDER Tool,” formed from the initial letters.
December 2013: The province of Tyrol decides to fund the “free BIM - tirol” project
Those involved in this project are: the University of Innsbruck, the Institute of Computer Science, and the y Institute. Concrete work on the project will begin in early 2014. The aim is to develop a “Mekrmalserver” operated by “Austrian Standards” in order to work out the requirements for the information to be provided for the construction industry. Dipl.-Ing. Rainer Breuß is working on the project on behalf of the Institute of Computer Science. He was previously employed as a programmer at CAD Anwendungen Muigg.
March 2014: The first preliminary version of the “Enhanced DWG Exporter for Revit” application is available
This application, with a special “configuration” for ÖNORM A 6240-4, was made available to users in the ÖNORM working group for testing.
February 6, 2021: Founding of BIM-and GmbH
Dipl.-Ing. Peter Kompolschek, Dipl.-Ing. Rainer Breuß, and Ing. Peter Muigg founded this company. BIM-and stands for “Building Information Modeling - alphanumeric Data.” The company’s goal is to develop software that can be used to manage construction projects based on IFC files. The graph database “Neo4j” is used for this purpose. The software is available as a pure server/cloud solution. Rainer Breuß is appointed managing director of the company.
2021: Autodesk transfers the right to distribute the EDER tool on its own account to CAD Anwendungen Muigg KG
The terms and conditions are laid down in a corresponding agreement. One reason for this decision was to professionalize the development and support of the tool, which is used worldwide. BIM-and Ges.m.b.H. was established as a distribution partner for the EDER tool. The software is described on the BIM-and GmbH website and is available for download. Information about the software and its further development is described under EDER tool.
July 5, 2024: Rainer Breuß, the managing director and software developer of BIM-and GmbH, passes away
Mr. Breuß died unexpectedly at the age of 59. He was the one who developed the software for BIM-and GmbH. It was deemed impossible to continue operating the software without Mr. Breuß’s involvement, so it was decided to liquidate BIM-and GmbH. As of today, January 26, 2026, the liquidation has not yet been finalized. As mentioned above, since the “EDER-Tool” software was offered via the BIM-and GmbH website, the shareholders agreed that CAD Anwendungen Muigg KG would take over the “Bim-and.com” domain to ensure continuity for users of the software.
January 26, 2026: Acquisition of the domain “bim-and.com” by CAD Anwendungen Muigg KG
The previous content of the BIM-and pages will no longer be displayed and will be replaced by the content of a newly designed homepage at www.muigg.com. A redirect from the previous page to “www.bim-and.com” has been created.
